A loose rivet or screw is easy to miss during sample review because the suitcase may still look clean on the outside. The problem usually appears later, after the case has been packed, rolled, lifted, dropped into cartons or handled through transit. By then, the buyer may see a moving handle base, a wheel housing that clicks, a trim part that rattles or a back plate that has started to mark the lining.

The direct answer is this: when luggage rivets loosen after transit, the buyer should check the full fastening area, not only the visible rivet head. The review should include hole position, shell thickness around the hole, inner support, washer or back plate contact, screw depth, rivet setting, lining clearance and the way the load travels through the part. A fastener that looks acceptable on an empty sample can still fail when the connected component carries weight or vibration.

Hole position and edge distance

Ask the factory to show whether the hole is centered in the intended boss, plate or molded seat. If the hole is too close to an edge, the surrounding material has less contact area. If the hole is enlarged during correction, the final part may sit flat but still have room to move.

Washer and back plate contact

The inner support should press against the right surface. A washer that touches only a curved corner, a plate that bridges over a rib, or a screw boss that bottoms out before the part clamps can all create a loose feel. The approval photo should show contact, not just the presence of a washer.

Part movement under realistic handling

Review the part after the sample is packed to a sensible test load for the project. Lift the side handle, roll the case over a short mixed surface, place it into a carton and remove it again. The goal is not to invent a test claim. The goal is to see whether the mounting point changes after normal handling steps that the buyer expects the suitcase to face.

Separate sample correction from production control

A factory can often repair one loose point on a sample. That does not automatically prove the bulk process is under control. Buyers should ask what will be repeated in production: drilling position, fastening tool setting, part orientation, operator check and final inspection method.

For screws, the project may need a defined tool setup and a visual check that the part sits flat without crushing the shell or board. For rivets, the factory should show the set side and the head side clearly, because a neat outside head can hide a poor inner setting. For parts with molded posts, confirm whether the post length and screw depth match the actual material stack.

This is also where size grading matters. A mounting method that works on a small carry-on may need review on a larger case because the same handle, wheel or trim can see a different pull direction. If the order includes several sizes, keep one approval photo set for each size that uses a different shell, board thickness or hardware base.

Build the approval record before bulk production

The best record is short, visual and repeatable. It should tell production what is accepted and give the buyer enough evidence to compare a later shipment. Avoid a vague note such as "hardware approved." That note will not help when the second order uses a new color, a different lining or a revised handle base.

Accept

The part stays flat after packing and handling, inner support is visible, and there is no new movement or fabric damage.

Hold

The sample looks correct outside, but the buyer has not received inner support photos or post-handling comparison photos.

Revise

The hardware moves, the hole is enlarged, support is missing, or the fastening point marks the lining after review.

Keep the decision connected to a real sample number, size, color and hardware version. If the buyer changes wheel type, handle base, lock, shell material or lining construction later, repeat the fastening check instead of carrying the old approval forward.

What to send the factory for a faster review

  • Photos or video showing the loose point, the direction of movement and whether the case is empty or packed.
  • The suitcase size, shell or fabric version, hardware part and sample number.
  • Inside and outside photos of the mounting point after the lining is opened or moved aside where possible.
  • The buyer's acceptance target: repair one sample, revise construction, or confirm a production inspection record.
  • Any planned changes to color, material, wheel type, handle base, lock position or packing method.
