OEM luggage spare parts guide
What buyers should confirm about replacement wheels, locks, handles and other components before bulk production
Spare parts are often discussed only after a customer reports a damaged wheel or broken zipper puller.
By that time, the original component may have changed, the finish may no longer match or the factory may need to check old production records before finding a compatible part.
Spare parts are easier to manage when they are planned together with the main luggage order.
The answer depends on the product structure, but buyers commonly review wheels, locks, handles, trolley grips, zipper pullers, buckles and custom decorative parts.
01
Spare part planning should focus on components that can be damaged during use, transport or repair.
Confirm complete wheel units, housings, screws and installation direction.
Confirm the lock model, mounting method and matching opening.
Confirm top, side and trolley grip parts separately.
Confirm zipper pullers, sliders and any custom logo pieces.
Review buckles, straps and removable interior components.
Keep records for corner pieces, trims and custom badges.
02
Two wheels may look nearly identical but use different screw spacing, housing depth or installation direction.
The same problem can apply to handles and locks. The visible shape may match while the internal mounting structure does not.
Each spare part should be connected to a product model, size, component code and approved production version.
03
Some components have a left and right installation direction. A right-side wheel housing may not fit the left side even when the wheel itself looks the same.
Spare part lists should state the exact position on the suitcase.
04
The required quantity depends on the order size, sales channel, repair process and expected support period.
Buyers should discuss the quantity for each component instead of using one quantity for every part.
How many units will be sold?
Which parts can be replaced locally?
Will spare parts be kept by the importer or distributor?
How long will the product remain on sale?
Is the same component used across several sizes?
05
A replacement wheel may fit correctly but still look different if its housing, cover or finish does not match the suitcase.
The same applies to plated locks, metal handles, zipper pullers and decorative trims.
Confirm material color.
Confirm gloss or matte finish.
Confirm plating color.
Confirm printed or engraved logo.
Compare the spare part with the final production sample.
06
Mixed spare parts can be difficult to identify after they arrive at a warehouse.
Each bag or carton should show the product model, size, part name, position, color and quantity.
07
Some parts can be replaced with basic tools. Others may require access to the lining, special equipment or factory assembly experience.
Buyers should confirm the replacement method before promising a repair service.
The design should allow safe replacement with clear instructions and suitable tools.
The buyer may need trained staff, internal access or additional assembly steps.
Some structural repairs may not be practical outside the factory.
08
A part is easier to use when the buyer also has clear installation information.
Request photos of the installation position.
Request a continuous replacement video.
Confirm the required screwdriver or tool.
Confirm screw types and quantities.
Record any lining removal or reassembly steps.
09
A repeat order may be placed months after the first production run. During that time, a component supplier may update a design or production method.
The buyer and factory should keep the approved component photos, codes, dimensions and installation details with the product specification.
Before confirming a repeat order, compare the current component with the approved production sample and spare part record.
