How to approve custom luggage lining and interior structure before production

What buyers should check about lining fabric, dividers, pockets, straps and branding before approving the final sample

The outside of a suitcase usually receives the most attention during sample development. Buyers compare the shell color, logo, wheels and handle position, while the interior may be approved after only a quick look.

Interior problems often become clear only after the suitcase is packed. A divider may not close properly, a pocket may cover the trolley channels, or a lining color may look different from the approved reference.

The interior should be approved as a complete working structure, not as a fabric sample alone.

What should buyers approve inside a custom suitcase?

Buyers should confirm the lining material, color, divider structure, pockets, zippers, straps, stitching, trolley channel cover, labels and interior logo positions.

Start with a clear interior layout

The buyer should first confirm how each side of the suitcase will be used. One side may have a full divider, while the other side may use compression straps or a second zippered panel.

The layout should be shown in a drawing or a fully assembled sample. A written description such as "standard lining" is not detailed enough for production.

Confirm whether it uses a divider, pocket, zipper or open packing space.

Right compartment

Confirm the strap structure, buckle position and usable packing area.

Center connection

Check the hinge fabric, zipper ends and lining around the opening.

Check more than the lining color

A lining sample should be checked for texture, thickness, backing and print quality as well as color.

A thin fabric may show the structure underneath. A stiff backing may reduce flexibility around corners. Printed patterns may also appear different after the fabric is cut and sewn.

Color consistency between parts

The final approval should use the actual lining installed in the suitcase rather than a loose swatch alone.

Review the divider panel when it is closed

A divider may look correct when the suitcase is empty but become difficult to close after clothing is added.

The panel should have enough clearance around the corners, trolley channels and zipper path. The zipper should run without pulling the lining into the teeth.

Check the divider shape against the shell cavity.

Check whether the zipper can be operated with one hand.

Check whether the panel stays flat after closing.

Check whether the divider presses against the opposite compartment.

Confirm every interior pocket

Interior pockets should have a defined purpose and usable opening. A large pocket is not useful if the zipper opening is too narrow or the pocket sits behind another panel.

Mesh pocket

Check mesh density, transparency, zipper length and seam position.

Fabric pocket

Check usable depth, lining support and whether the pocket sags when loaded.

Small accessory pocket

Confirm its size, closure and position relative to other parts.

Test the compression straps and buckles

Compression straps should hold packed items without twisting or pulling away from their fixing points.

Buyers should confirm the strap width, length, elasticity, buckle direction and attachment method.

Open and close the buckle several times.

Pull the straps to their practical working length.

Check whether the straps reach the center of the compartment.

Check whether the fixing points distort the lining.

Inspect the trolley and wheel housing covers

Trolley tubes and wheel housings reduce usable interior space. The lining should cover these structures neatly without creating loose fabric or sharp folds.

The cover should also allow access to service points when the product design requires maintenance.

Approve interior logos and labels separately

An interior logo may be printed, embroidered, sewn onto a label or added as a separate badge.

Its position should be measured from a fixed seam or panel edge. The buyer should also check whether the logo remains visible when the divider is closed.
