Compare the wheel housing with the packing job

A buyer should define usable space by the contents that need to fit, not by the empty outline of the shell. A folded shirt, a shoe, a rectangular packing cube and a laptop sleeve each react differently to a raised corner. If the range is aimed at short business trips, a wide flat floor may matter more than a slightly deeper corner cavity. If it is aimed at soft clothing, the contents may conform around a smaller intrusion.

Measure the packing floor after assembly

External dimensions tell a buyer how the case may fit into a storage or travel limit. They do not describe the uninterrupted packing floor. Add a simple interior drawing or top-view photo to the sample record. Mark the wheel housing outline, handle channels, zipper line and any raised lining area. The drawing does not need false precision. It needs to show the shape that the packer will meet.

Use the same contents for each sample comparison. Put one representative cube or folded garment in the main cavity, close the divider and check whether the corners create a gap, crease or pressure point. Then add the second layer that the product brief expects. A single item can make a cavity look generous; the second layer reveals whether the housing steals useful height.

Check the lid as well. If the wheel corners press against a divider pocket or zipper track when the case is closed, the problem is not only lost volume. It can also affect the feel of the zip, the shape of the lining and the way a customer packs the case. Record the closed condition, not just the open view.

Keep packing space and wheel service in the same decision

Moving a wheel housing out of the cavity can improve the floor, but it may change how the assembly attaches to the shell and how a technician reaches the fasteners. A low internal projection may be easy to build and easy to protect, while a flatter interior may require a different base construction. This is a product trade-off, not a reason to chase the largest apparent capacity.

Ask which parts are replaceable and what access is available if a wheel or fastener needs service. A packing improvement that makes the wheel assembly difficult to reach can create a different after-sales problem. Keep the wheel identity, housing drawing and interior sample together so the packing claim is not separated from the hardware decision.

Use clear wording in the brief. Say "flat packing floor around the four wheel corners" or "divider must close without contact over the housings" when that is the actual requirement. Avoid promising a capacity number until the assembled sample has been packed with the contents that define the collection.

Turn the interior check into a usable sample record

For the next sample, provide the case size, wheel assembly, intended contents, divider construction and any space claim that the product page will make. Ask for an open interior photo, a closed packed photo and the hardware position from the outside. Keep those views with the accepted sample instead of relying on a capacity estimate copied from another model.
